The Boston Red Sox's farm system certainly is in a significantly better place than it was a few years ago.

Boston farm system at one point was ranked in the lower third in all of baseball but now is considered one of the best. Top prospect Marcelo Mayer certainly is a big reason why the Red Sox's farm system has gained notoriety, but the club has significantly more depth than it had in recent years.

One player who has surprisingly shot up the Red Sox's prospect rankings and is turning heads right now is without a doubt outfielder Roman Anthony. The 19-year-old was taken by Boston in the second round of the 2022 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and now is the Red Sox's No. 2 prospect after a wildly impressive start to his professional career.

Anthony appeared in just 20 games in the Red Sox organization in 2022. The young outfielder has had his first full professional season this year and has risen the ranks all the way up to the High-A Greenville Drive. In 52 games so far this season with Greenville, Anthony has slashed .292/.415/.574 to go along with an eye-popping 12 home runs and 53 RBIs. Anthony also has added 22 doubles, four triples, and 13 stolen bases.

The 19-year-old seemingly can do a little bit of everything on the field. If he continues to hit like he has recently for the Drive, a promotion to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs could make sense. He may not make the jump this season -- and certainly still is very young -- but at the latest, we'll likely see him in Portland in 2024.

The future is bright in Boston and it may not be too long until we see Anthony in the outfield at Fenway Park.
