Ex-Blue Jays All-Star To Toss Bullpen Session For Clubs; Red Sox May Be Logical Landing Spot
The Boston Red Sox still need to add more pitching before Spring Training rolls around.
Boston has been linked to seemingly every hurler available, but it's unclear what its plan is. There are some top options like Jordan Montgomery available and also multiple mid-tier options.
The only clear thing is that Boston needs to bolster its organizational depth. The Red Sox need more starting pitching at the big league level, but also more depth in the minors. That's one of the biggest reasons why the club struggled in 2023.
Boston's lack of depth was put on full display as injuries piled up and the team was unable to recover. It would be great to add multiple top starters at the big league level but also a few hurlers to minor league deals.
One player who could make a lot of sense is former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Aaron Sanchez. He hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2022 but has a career 4.16 ERA in eight seasons and reportedly is planning a bullpen session for possible suitors, according to FanSided's Robert Murray.
"Right-hander Aaron Sanchez is throwing a bullpen for teams on Feb. 9 at Summers Method in Clearwater, FL," Murray said. "Sanchez, who was an All-Star in 2016, most recently pitched in the majors in 2022 and has a 4.16 ERA in eight career seasons."
If Sanchez is fully healthy, why not take a chance on him? He spent the first five-plus seasons of his career with Toronto and earned his lone All-Star nod and had a 3.96 ERA across 146 total outings.
Things haven't quite gone his way since leaving the Blue Jays during the 2019 campaign, but he is just 31 years old. Why not add some more depth at the minor league level with possible big league upside?
