Would it make sense for the Red Sox to pursue the one-time All-Star?

The Boston Red Sox are looking all across baseball to help improve the starting rotation.

Boston realistically could be a playoff team in 2024 if it adds one or two starters in free agency. The Red Sox's offense was impressive last year but injuries and inconsistent play to the rotation took them out of playoff contention down the stretch.

The Red Sox have been looking at multiple top-tier arms to improve the rotation but also have been looking at some intriguing hurlers to shore up the back end of the rotation. One starter who has been floated as a possible candidate for the Red Sox is former Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays lefty Hyun-jin Ryu, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.

"(Jordan Montgomery) and (Blake Snell) represent established starters who could slot at or near the top of the rotation, (Shōta Imanaga) has a track record of success in the NPB and is seen by many as a No. 3 or 4 starter, and (Lucas Giolito) represents an intriguing buy-low candidate as a 29-year-old who even in his fall over the last two years from All-Star form has been a reliable source of innings," Speier said. "Several other free agents — including James Paxton, Sean Manaea, and Hyun Jin Ryu — likewise could be candidates to solidify the back of the rotation."

Ryu is a very intriguing name to look out for. The one-time All-Star missed most of the last two seasons but made 11 starts with Toronto last season and logged a 3.46 ERA down the stretch. Throughout his 10-year big league career, he has a career 3.27 ERA and a 78-48 record.

Landing Ryu wouldn't fix all of Boston's issues, but he's a solid veteran who could provide innings if he's healthy.
