Ex-Red Sox Hurler Reportedly Getting Second Chance In Big Leagues With AL East Rival
One former member of the Boston Red Sox is getting another shot at the big leagues.
Former Red Sox hurler and current Baltimore Oriole Eduard Bazardo reportedly was called up to the big league club Wednesday afternoon, according to The Baltimore Sun's Nathan Ruiz.
"The Orioles officially promoted Colton Cowser, their No. 2 prospect," Ruiz said. "They also optioned Ryan McKenna, designated Anthony Bemboom and Chris Vallimont for assignment, and selected right-hander Eduard Bazardo's contract."
Bazardo was signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2014 and he worked his way up through the club's farm system. The 27-year-old made his professional debut for the Red Sox's Dominican Summer League club in 2015 at just 19 years old. Bazardo was promoted to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs in 2019 and then was added to the Red Sox's 40-man roster during the 2020 COVID-shortened campaign.
The righty first joined the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in 2021 and also made his big league debut in the same season. Bazardo made two big league appearances in 2021 and didn't allow a run across three innings pitched while also striking out three batters. In 2022, Bazardo split time between Worcester and Boston and impressed. The young hurler made 12 appearances with the Red Sox and pitched to a 2.76 ERA across 16 1/3 innings pitched before being designated for assignment.
Bazardo signed with the Orioles ahead of the 2023 campaign and after impressing with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides now is back in the big leagues. Throughout his career, he has shown some very impressive flashes. At the Triple-A level, Bazardo made 24 appearances this season and pitched to a 4-1 record and 3.51 ERA. If he can keep up his impressive play, maybe he will stick around with Baltimore and we'll see him back at Fenway Park shortly.
