Former Boston Red Sox players are popping on teams left and right so far in spring training.

Spring training is in full swing with Grapefruit League games each day and there are plenty of players fighting hard as they attempt to make a big league club. One player who fits this description is former Red Sox hurler and current New York Yankees pitcher Ryan Weber.

The 32-year-old pitched for Boston from 2019 through 2021 and compiled a 5.54 ERA across 36 appearances while striking out 63 batters. Since being designated for assignment by Boston, Weber has played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, and the New York Yankees but has pitched in just eight games since leaving Boston at the big league level.

Weber was re-signed by New York this offseason to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring and so far in spring training is doing the best he can to earn a spot with the big league club. He started New York's Grapefruit League opener on Saturday and was solid in his one inning and didn't allow any runs, but did surrender two hits.

The 32-year-old took the hill once again for New York on Wednesday and earned the win as the Yankees took down the Washington Nationals, 4-2. Weber got the ball in a different role Wednesday and handled the last two innings of work and didn't allow any runs or hits and struck out one Nationals batter.

Although it is spring training so you have to take every appearance with a grain of salt, Weber has been able to impress so far in a small sample size. If he wants to crack New York's active roster he'll have to maintain this level of play for the duration of spring.

Again, it is very early in spring training so at this point it is hard to truly judge anyone, but it's nice to see a former Red Sox player doing well so far. Boston also doing well for itself so far and are undefeated in Grapefruit League play heading into Thursday's tilt against the Philadelphia Phillies at JetBlue Park.

Although we're still weeks away from Opening Day, it truly nice to see real baseball everyday again.
