Ex-Red Sox Slugger Replacing Aaron Judge On MLB Roster After Hip Injury
The New York Yankees fell into a tie for last place in the American League East on Sunday but received even worse news the following day.
New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday evening, according to the Major League Baseball transaction wire, and his replacement is coming from a stint with the Boston Red Sox.
To fill the massive void left by Judge on the roster is... Franchy Cordero.
Cordero was designated for assignment by the Red Sox this past offseason after spending the previous two seasons in Boston.
After a brief spring training stint with the Baltimore Orioles, the outfielder/first baseman found his way into the Yankees organization. Cordero started the season red hot but has come back down to earth as of late and was subsequently demoted days ago.
Cordero is hitting .151 (6-for-53) with four home runs, 11 RBIs and a .578 OPS in 18 games for New York.
As for Judge’s hip injury, his timetable for return has not yet been announced. Judge sustained his injury from an awkward slide into a base last Thursday against the Texas Rangers.
Cordero getting recalled tonight was certainly unexpected, as he was just optioned down to the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railraiders on Saturday. Cordero always seems to find ways to stick on MLB rosters despite lackluster production.
