One former member of the Boston Red Sox organization is getting another chance at the big leagues.

Boston signed slugger Jorge Alfaro to a minor league contract this past offseason and gave him a chance to compete for one of the club's big league spots. Although he impressed in spring training and at the minor league level, Boston ultimately decided to roll with Reese McGuire and Connor Wong in the big leagues leading Alfaro to opt out of his minor league contract and become a free agent.

Alfaro recently latched on with the Colorado Rockies and officially will get another chance at the big leagues as the club selected his contract and called him up to the big leagues Thursday night.

The 30-year-old has done all he possibly could to get another crack at the big leagues. Alfaro began the 2023 season with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox and impressed slashing .320/.367/.520 to go along with six home runs and 30 RBIs across 43 games played. After being signed to a minor league contract by Colorado, Alfaro appeared in three games with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes and collected five hits in 14 at-bats, including another home run.

It's not too surprising to see Alfaro back at the big-league level. He is an eight-year veteran and has serious pop in his bat. The 30-year-old certainly isn't the greatest defensive catcher in the world, but his offensive potential is intriguing. Hopefully, his hot streak in the minors can carry over to the big leagues and he can stick with Colorado for the rest of the 2023 campaign.
