Four Former Red Sox Players Named To Official All-Star Game Rosters
The Boston Red Sox only have one player from the active roster headed to the All-Star Game on Tuesday but will have plenty of representation in the form of old friends.
Closing pitcher Kenley Jansen is the lone member on the Red Sox heading to Seattle for the All-Star festivities. The last time Boston only sent one player was in 2015, when Brock Holt represented Beantown.
However, there are some former fan favorites in the event. Here are the four former Red Sox players in the All-Star Game:
Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts
Betts will be a National League starting outfielder, who is slashing .276 this year with 50 extra-base hits including 26 home runs and 62 RBIs in 86 games.
Los Angeles Dodgers' J.D. Martinez
Martinez will be joining Betts as a National League starter in the designated hitter role. He's hitting .255 with 44 extra-base hits including 22 home runs and 62 RBIs in 73 games.
Texas Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi
Eovaldi, arguably a current top-three pitcher in baseball this year, will be alongside Jansen representing the American League. This season, the righty has a 2.83 ERA with a .213 batting average against, 109-to-31 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and 1.02 WHIP across 117 2/3 innings pitched in 18 starts.
Philadelphia Phillies' Craig Kimbrel
Kimbrel was a late addition to the National League side, replacing Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams. This season Kimbrel has a 3.41 ERA with a 1.71 batting average against, 57-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 0.97 WHIP in 37 innings pitched across 39 games.
