Giants Have 'Strong Possibility' Of Landing Red Sox Top Target Despite Speculation
One of the Boston Red Sox's top rumored targets could sign soon with a different club.
Boston has been linked to All-Star slugger Jorge Soler on multiple occasions this offseason and while a signing still could make sense, the San Francisco Giants have a "strong possibility" of landing him, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
"I don’t see a better fit than a reunion for (Cody Bellinger) and the North Siders," Morosi said. "The (Chicago Cubs) have flexibility at his two positions -- first base and center field -- and Bellinger found a home in Chicago after struggling mightily near the end of his tenure as a Dodger.
"And though he’s not listed as one of the Big Four, I see Jorge Soler and the Giants as a strong possibility, as Susan Slusser indicated recently in the San Francisco Chronicle."
Soler would be the perfect pickup for the Red Sox. Boston is looking for a right-handed slugger to fill Justin Turner's shoes. Plus, the Red Sox have said they are looking for defensive flexibility out of a player if they add a new designated hitter.
The 31-year-old could help out in the outfield while also providing some pop in the middle of the lineup. Soler clubbed 36 home runs last season and drove in 75 runs while slashing .250/.341/.512.
He has been linked to the Red Sox on multiple occasions this offseason but it sounds like San Francisco may actually end up landing him. If the Red Sox want to get a deal done, it sounds like they will need to act fast.
