The New York Mets added a former member of the Boston Red Sox to their active roster.

New York made a flurry of moves Wednesday afternoon including adding former Red Sox infielder Jonathan Araúz to the big league roster for the first time this season, according to the club.

"(Infielder) Jonathan Araúz has been selected to the major league roster," the Mets said. "(Right-handed pitcher) Phil Bickford has been added to the active roster. (Catcher) Michael Pérez has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. (Right-handed pitcher) Vinny Nittoli has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse."

Araúz was selected in the third round of the Rule 5 Draft by the Mets ahead of the 2023 season from the Baltimore Orioles. The 25-year-old began the campaign with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets and slashed .244/.344/.429 in 95 games to go along with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs. Araúz also chipped in three triples and 14 doubles for Syracuse.

The utility man made his big league debut with the Red Sox during the 2020 season and saw time with the club in various capacities until he was designated for assignment in 2022. Araúz saw time all over the infield with Boston and made appearances at second base, shortstop, third base, and even at pitcher. The 25-year-old appeared in 59 games for Boston across three seasons and slashed .204/.280/.320 to go along with four home runs and 18 RBIs.

It's unclear what role he'll play with the Mets but it wouldn't be too surprising to see him spend the majority of the rest of the 2023 campaign with the big league club. New York has struggled this season and was one of the biggest sellers at the trade deadline. The Mets need some depth right now and it seems like Araúz will help provide it.
