Orioles' Manager Has Choice Words For Red Sox's Alex Cora Regarding Recent Comment

'Thought it was disrespectful to our hitters, to be honest with you'

The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles played a hard-fought game in the opening game of their second series, resulting in the O's 5-4 win Monday, but the most dramatic part of the game occurred after play had concluded.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora appears to be under fire from his American League foe after some seemingly meaningless comments that were taken the wrong way.

“I’m not sure what he was getting at," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Tuesday, as transcribed by The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka. "Honestly, pretty disappointed hearing that. Thought it was disrespectful to our hitters, to be honest with you. I thought we had a great game plan. I thought great Major League hitters take really good at-bats.”

Upon hearing Hyde's reaction, Cora clarified that his comments were regarding his concern that Chris Sale might be tipping pitches and that he was the last person to be accusatory following his cheating scandal with the Houston Astros in 2017.

Sale allowed nine hits on eight hard-hit balls with five earned runs and only had two swing-and-misses on his 83 pitches through five innings. Sale also failed to record a strikeout, something that he's never done in a full start.

Hyde clearly misconstrued what Cora had to say about Sale's outing, jumping to the conclusion that he believed there was foul play. There was certainly frustration behind Cora’s comments on how well the Orioles were hitting against Sale, however, he never insinuated that he had suspicions of a scandal.

Cora ended his comments on Hyde’s response by telling reporters that he would go talk to Hyde and clear the air.
