Orioles Mentioned As Possible Landing Spot For Ex-Red Sox Pitcher
One former member of the Boston Red Sox is looking for a new home.
Boston is in an intriguing spot and is looking to add to the starting rotation. While this is the case, one of Boston's most impressive pitchers from the 2023 campaign still is available in free agency.
Former Red Sox pitcher James Paxton is a free agent and has been linked to multiple teams this offseason, including a possible return to Boston.
It's unclear exactly where he will land but one team that has popped up is the American League East rival Baltimore Orioles. Paxton is one of the top mid-tier options available and certainly will help whichever club he lands with.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter compiled a list of possible options to fill each Major League Baseball club's biggest roster hole and mentioned Paxton as a fit for the Orioles.
"The Orioles have yet to make the splashy addition to their young starting rotation many were expecting, and it doesn't look like a run at signing Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery is in the cards, but they were recently linked to left-hander James Paxton," Reuter said. "He went 5-1 with a 2.73 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts in 56 innings over his first 10 starts after returning from Tommy John surgery on May 12.
"And while he ran out of steam a bit during the second half of the season, he has been rock solid when healthy throughout his career."
It's not too surprising that Baltimore has been floated as an option for Paxton and if he doesn't wind up back in Boston, don't be surprised to see a move happen with the Orioles.
