The Boston Red Sox need one more top-of-the-rotation starter and it sounds like the club could end up getting exactly what it needs.

Boston has been linked on numerous occasions to former New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers starter Jordan Montgomery. The big lefty is exactly what Boston needs to help fix its rotation but it hasn't been able to get a deal done.

While this is the case, executives believe that he will "wind up" with Boston, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"MLB team executives widely believe that two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell will ultimately sign with the Los Angeles Angels or possibly the San Francisco Giants, while Texas Rangers’ postseason hero Jordan Montgomery will wind up with the Boston Red Sox," Nightengale said. "The Red Sox have kept in constant contact with Montgomery while the Rangers are keeping tabs if owner Ray Davis suddenly changes his mind."

It would be shocking if Montgomery didn't sign soon. Opening Day will be here before we know it and Montgomery will need to report to camp of whichever team signs him and ramp up for the season.

Montgomery is represented by agent Scott Boras and two of his clients recently just signed in Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman. It seems like a deal is on the way for Montgomery and hopefully, it is with Boston.

The Red Sox certainly can afford whatever Montgomery is looking for and he immediately would improve the club's rotation on paper. It seems like there is interest on both sides but now they just need to get something done.
