Red Sox Fans Will Be Encouraged By Latest Adam Duvall Injury Update
Following the Boston Red Sox's 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night, the box score was the least notable headline of the night.
It turns out Adam Duvall might have avoided a long-term injury after all. After the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was, as expected, asked about the status of Duvall’s wrist injury from Sunday afternoon.
“Just a fracture, that’s it,” Cora told reporters, as transcribed by MLB.com's Ian Browne. “No surgery. Just put a cast on it and let it heal, and he’ll be back whenever he’s ready.”
With a clear plan of action, a timetable is easier to form.
"By avoiding surgery, there’s a chance Duvall could be back in six to eight weeks," Browne wrote.
This is a sigh of relief for Red Sox fans as they hope for a return to the diamond as early as the end of May.
Duvall had been hitting .455 (14-for-29) with four home runs and 14 RBIs, leading the Red Sox in each category (Rafael Devers also has four homers).
In the meantime, the Red Sox offense will have to survive without their most-productive slugger early on. That attempt started by being blanked by the Rays in their 1-0 loss.
Boston will attempt to rebound without Duvall in the lineup on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. ET for the second game of the four-game set at Tropicana Park.
