The Boston Red Sox have had a relatively quiet offseason thus far, but chief baseball officer Craig Breslow may have something in the works.

Aside from a few minor league additions to strengthen depth, their pitching staff has not seen much improvement since the end of the 2023 season.

However, an oddsmaker believes that the Red Sox are in the running for a premier free-agent

Boston has the third-highest odds of landing Blake Snell if he does not return to the San Diego Padres according to BetOnline. The Red Sox were given +400 odds (20% implied chance) sitting only behind the the San Francisco Giants at +150 (40%) and the Los Angeles Dodgers at +250 (28.57%).

Snell had a 2.25 ERA, 234-to-99 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .181 batting average against and 1.19 WHIP in 180 innings across 32 starts last season.

Although Boston is in no position to shy away from a two-time Cy Young winner, Snell does not appear to be their top priority at this point in the offseason.

Jordan Montgomery has been at the forefront of the conversation surrounding Boston's plan to bolster their rotation, along with Japanese superstar Yoshinobu Yamamoto -- although, the latter is looking less and less likely every day.
