Red Sox Make Lone Trade To Slightly Bolster Infield Group Prior To Deadline
The Boston Red Sox made just one move prior to the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline, and it was not nearly enough to move the needle.
After waiting around all day, news broke of a Red Sox trade, one that doesn't mean much at all.
The Boston Red Sox are acquiring infielder Luis Urías from the Milwaukee Brewers," ESPN's Jeff Passan tweeted minutes after the deadline.
The return to this point is unknown, but frankly, doesn't matter for this level of a move.
Urías has hit .145 with a .535 OPS in 55 at-bats. He's a career .235 with 107 extra-base hits including 46 home runs, 167 RBIs and a .720 OPS in 413 games at the big-league level.
The 26-year-old is a fine depth piece to add to the organization but he is not the name Red Sox fans wanted to see at the trade deadline, especially as many American League foes made pushes to improve their roster.
Urías joins the mix of middle infielders that includes Christian Arroyo, Pablo Reyes, Yu Chang and eventually Trevor Story. It's not known if the veteran is joining Boston or Triple-A Worcester.
The Red Sox were on the outskirts of postseason contention and now appear to be even further away.
