Red Sox Nation Can Take Breath After Positive Injury Update About Top Prospect
The Boston Red Sox have had a tough go with injuries so far in spring training.
Boston's starting rotation has been hit hard by the injury bug so far this spring with three potential starters all missing time at points in Garrett Whitlock, Brayan Bello, and James Paxton.
While the rotation has been the biggest question mark injury-wise, another player who made the news recently is first baseman, Triston Casas. Boston's top first base prospect and expected 2023 starter was scratched from the team's Grapefruit League contest Tuesday afternoon with a pinky injury. The injury reportedly won't keep him out of the lineup long, though, and he will return to the Boston lineup Thursday, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
Boston already has dealt with a wide range of injuries, so seeing Casas' name certainly struck a chord. The first baseman jammed his pinky while recently catching a medicine ball. At the end of the day, the pinky injury will just be a small blip that won't be remembered because it is so minimal.
Although in the long run, it won't be a big deal, Boston has dealt with some freak injuries so until there's always a little bit of nerves any time any injury is announced. Left-handed hurler Chris Sale has missed almost three whole seasons while dealing with various injuries. He underwent Tommy John surgery but has also missed time after both a bike injury, and being struck by a line drive. There's no way to know for sure what will happen with each injury.
It is a very positive sign that Casas will return to the lineup Thursday and he's sure to play a massive role with the club in 2023.
