The Boston Red Sox have had a roller coaster of an offseason.

Although Boston did make multiple intriguing additions and could be a better overall team in 2023 -- especially with another move or two -- they did lose longtime shortstop and fan-favorite Xander Bogaerts to the San Diego Padres in free agency.

The Padres took to Twitter to share video footage from their spring training facility Monday afternoon and Red Sox Nation certainly won't like the look of it.

Bogaerts was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent and spent the first 10 years of his Major League Baseball career manning shortstop for Boston. Over that stretch, he became the all-time leader in games played at shortstop by a member of the Red Sox and developed into one of the best players at the position in all of baseball.

It seemed unlikely that the Red Sox would be able to sign Bogaerts in free agency this offseason, but the team still said he was their top choice but wasn't able to work out a contract. Boston failed to negotiate an extension ahead of the 2022 campaign and then he was blown away with an 11-year, $280 million contract from the Padres in free agency. Boston did not match the deal, which wasn't too surprising at it will carry into Bogaerts' early 40s.

While things seem to be looking up for the Red Sox, it won't be the same at Fenway Park in 2023 without No. 2 at shortstop.
