Red Sox Pegged As Top Landing Spot For Ex-Giants Hurler After Strong Season
The Boston Red Sox could use another reliever or two before Spring Training rolls around.
Boston has had a quiet offseason but there still is time to make a move. The Red Sox certainly need to. The New York Yankees have significantly improved this offseason, the Baltimore Orioles just landed superstar hurler Corbin Burnes, and both the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays both are in a good spot.
The Red Sox need to act fast to improve the club if they want to compete in 2024. There still are solid options out there in free agency in multiple spots. The starting rotation is the Red Sox's biggest area of need and Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell still are available.
Boston also could use another reliever and one interesting player out there who has been linked to the Red Sox on multiple occasions is former Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants reliever Jakob Junis.
He has multiple connections to Boston and Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer floated the Red Sox as the top landing spot for the 31-year-old.
"Possible Fits: Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers," Rymer said. "Landing Spot Prediction: Red Sox. The Red Sox are interested in Junis, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Boston fans surely want a bigger splash, but it's not a bad thing that the righty would further bolster the club's pitching depth. And who knows? Maybe Craig Breslow's pitching lab can solve his fastball problem."
Junis spent the 2023 season as a reliever but has seen time in the bullpen and the starting rotation throughout his seven-year big league career. A move certainly makes sense.
