The Boston Red Sox will be among the most active teams this offseason in pursuit of arguably the best free-agent pitcher.

Boston needs to rebuild the starting rotation this offseason after a disappointing 2023 campaign and it sounds like it is aiming to land the best pitcher available. Boston has been linked to Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto over the last year and we will find out shortly who he will decide to join in free agency. Yamamoto is expected to be posted "any day" and then clubs will have the chance to negotiate with him.

The Red Sox will have stiff competition -- namely the New York Yankees and New York Mets -- but remain a "big market possibility" to land Yamamoto in part because of outfielder Masataka Yoshida, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

"Boston is another big market possibility, in part because of Yamamoto’s friendship with Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida," Martino said. New Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow was also said to be highly regarded by (Chicago Cubs) outfielder Seiya Suzuki when Breslow worked in the Chicago front office.

Yamamoto is exactly the type of player Boston needs. The Red Sox need a top-of-the-arm starter and Yamamoto certainly is that. Plus, he is just 25 years old and would be able to help the club for years to come. If the Red Sox were able to pair Yamamoto up with a healthy Brayan Bello and Chris Sale, they could be on to something.
