Red Sox Reportedly Have 'Expressed Interest' In Cy Young Award Winner
It sounds like the Boston Red Sox are looking into landing one of the top available starting pitchers.
Boston's starting rotation is the biggest area the club needs to improve this offseason and although it hasn't gotten a deal done yet, it sounds like it is trying to. Luckily for the Red Sox, there are some very intriguing hurlers available through free agency as well as the trade market.
While it's unclear exactly what the Red Sox's plans are, Boston reportedly has "expressed interest" in two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, according to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam.
"Another top free agent, Blake Snell, is thought to prefer pitching on the West Coast and more specifically, in Seattle, his hometown," McAdam said. "After (Yoshinobu Yamamoto), Snell will likely be the most in-demand of the free agents, and the Red Sox, a source confirmed, expressed an interest in him earlier this month at the GM Meetings in Arizona."
Snell is one of the biggest names available. He has been linked to the Red Sox on numerous occasions and a signing would make sense. Snell was stellar for the San Diego Padres last season and led the National League with a 2.25 ERA on the way to his second Cy Young Award. He likely will be the second-most-expensive starter in free agency -- behind Yamamoto -- but he should be worth the price. Snell has been one of the best left-handed pitchers in baseball since debuting in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Rays and immediately would improve the Red Sox's rotation if they can get a deal done.
