Spring training is right around the corner but the Boston Red Sox may not be done making moves.

Boston already has had a roller coaster of an offseason and has made some intriguing additions -- with the biggest being the addition of Japanese star outfielder Masataka Yoshida -- but still may be in the market for a new middle infielder, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.

"The Red Sox won’t rule out further roster changes before spring training starts and continue to look to add up-the-middle depth, but team officials suggested that further tweaks are likely limited to the roster’s margins," Speier said.

Boston recently completed a trade for former Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi, but with Xander Bogaerts gone and Trevor Story set to miss time due to injury, it sounds like the team still is considering more options. Mondesi is intriguing when healthy but he may not be at the very start of the season as he continues to recover after suffering a torn ACL last season.

One of the biggest names still on the market is former Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias. Boston has been tied to the 33-year-old on multiple occasions this offseason and a reunion would make sense for both sides. The one-time All-Star began his career in Boston in 2011 and then was traded in 2013. Iglesias already has returned to the club once in 2021, but signed with the Colorado Rockies as a free agent ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Iglesias impressed in 2022 for the Rockies slashing .292/.328/.380 in 118 games played to go along with 30 doubles, 47 RBIs, and solid defensive play at shortstop. The 33-year-old finished in the 80th percentile in 2022 for expected batting average, 98th percentile in whiff percentage, and 78th percentile in sprint speed.

If the Red Sox were to add another middle infielder into the mix, Iglesias would certainly be a familiar option and also potentially the best one left for the team. Boston currently has Enrique Hernandez, Christian Arroyo, and Mondesi poised to play second base and shortstop in some combination. Adding Iglesias would give the team a proven shortstop and allow them to move Hernandez over to second base and give Mondesi even more time to recover.

With Hernandez, Arroyo, and, Mondesi all in the mix, maybe signing Iglesias would give the team a logjam at the two spots -- especially with Story hopefully returning in 2023 -- but having more options certainly would be better than fewer.

Iglesias already has shown the Red Sox organization what he can do. If the team still is looking for an infielder it may not hurt to bring him in one more time.
