The Boston Red Sox are in the process of finding a new person to lead the baseball operations department.

After firing former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom during the season, Boston has a big decision on its hands. The Red Sox already have been linked to multiple executives, but a deal hasn't been struck quite yet. The club's recent turnover at the position and the fact that manager Alex Cora and other members of the front office are already in place reportedly are reasons for this, according to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam.

"According to multiple sources, the Red Sox have been met with several rejections by some targeted candidates as they seek to find a replacement to replace Chaim Bloom, fired in September," McAdam said. "Some of those prospective hires have been put off by the level of turnover that’s taken place in the Baseball Operations department over the last dozen years or so. The new hire will be the fifth person in charge of the department since 2011.

"And increasingly, sources add, there’s concern about the surrounding infrastructure. The new hire will not only be inheriting manager Alex Cora, whose job has been guaranteed by ownership for at least 2024, but also, a front office that includes several executives who’ve been part of the organization for more than two decades, along with various other department heads who come with the job."

The Red Sox have a big offseason ahead of them. After winning just 78 games in each of the last two seasons, Boston needs to make a major splash this offseason if it wants to make it back to the postseason. There are plenty of big-name players available this offseason and rumors already have started to swirl about Boston's possible interest, but it will need to figure out who will lead the club before any more can be done. Luckily for the Red Sox there still is some time before free agency actually begins, but Boston has work to do quickly.
