Red Sox Reportedly Promote Flamethrower After Exceptional Performance With Portland
The Boston Red Sox continue to make interesting minor league moves.
Boston's farm system has taken a major step forward this season and certainly should be exciting Red Sox fans. The Red Sox have surprised some people at the Major League Baseball level this season and should get even better shortly as some of Boston's top prospects prepare to make the jump to the big leagues.
The Red Sox have made a few interesting promotions recently and continued their recent busy stretch as the club reportedly promoted fireballer Luis Guerrero to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox on Tuesday, according to MiLB Central.
Guerrero was drafted in the 17th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and has impressed since making his professional debut in 2022. Last season, the young hurler spent time with the Florida Complex League Red Sox, Class-A Salem Red Sox, and High-A Greenville Drive. Guerrero appeared in 27 games overall in 2022 and compiled a 3.23 ERA while striking out 59 batters across 39 innings pitched.
The 23-year-old has been even more impressive this season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. In 43 appearances Guerrero pitched to a minuscule 1.81 ERA. The young fireballer struck out 59 batters across 49 2/3 innings pitched with Portland before his promotion.
Guerrero is an intriguing prospect for the Red Sox. He has a fastball that reaches 100 miles per hour and certainly impressed with Portland. If his success can carry over with Worcester, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him at the big league level at some point in 2024.
