Red Sox Reportedly Promote Top Prospect To Triple-A; Could We See Him In Boston Soon?
The Boston Red Sox have plenty of impressive prospects who likely will find themselves at Fenway Park in the near future.
Boston currently is in last place in the American League East at 40-39 but still could compete for a Wild Card spot this season. Even if the Red Sox fail to make the postseason this year, the club certainly has a bright future. Boston's farm system has significantly improved in recent years and now a few top prospects are knocking on the door of making their big league debuts.
The Red Sox reportedly promoted No. 3 prospect Ceddanne Rafaela to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox on Sunday afternoon, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
"A top Red Sox prospect has reached the highest rung of the minor league ladder," Speier said. "Center fielder/shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela was informed Sunday afternoon that he’s been promoted from the Double-A Portland to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. Just over a year since he moved up from High A Greenville, the 22-year-old Rafaela will face the most advanced minor league competition."
Rafaela was signed as an international free agent by Boston in 2017 and he has spent his whole professional career to date in the Red Sox's organization. The 22-year-old has shot up the organization's prospect ranking and is in the middle of arguably the best season young career to date. Rafaela slashed .294/.332/.441 to go along with six home runs and 37 RBIs in 60 games with the Portland Sea Dogs this season.
The 22-year-old certainly is an exciting prospect to watch out for. Rafaela can play all over the field and this season has seen time at shortstop and center field. The No. 3 prospect has the potential to be a five-tool player at the big league level. If Rafaela can shine at the Triple-A level there's a chance he could find himself on the big league club come September, but more likely could make his big league debut in 2024.
Hopefully, Rafaela can shine with Worcester and make his way to Fenway Park in the near future.
