Red Sox Reportedly Still In Mix For Possible Game-Changing Pitcher This Offseason
The Boston Red Sox need a major upgrade in the starting rotation and could get it this offseason.
Boston has a lot of work to do. After two straight seasons of winning 78 games, the Red Sox fired former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. Boston currently is looking for its next baseball operations leader but it's clear that whoever lands in the role will have a busy offseason ahead of them.
The Red Sox's biggest need certainly is in the starting rotation. Boston already has been tied to a wide range of pitchers and one player whose name continues to be brought up is Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The majority of Major League Baseball teams seem interested in the young star, and Boston continues to be mentioned as a fit, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Word going around is the (New York Mets) might be high bidders for coveted Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Every big-market team has been tracking the two-time MVP, but a couple rival GMs say they hear the Mets are expected to go big.
"The (New York Yankees), (Chicago Cubs), (Los Angeles Dodgers), Red Sox,
(St. Louis Cardinals, (Philadelphia Phillies), (San Francisco Giants), (Arizona Diamondbacks), (Detroit Tigers), and (Texas Rangers) and others heavily scouted Yamamoto."
Yamamoto has been mentioned as a possible fit for the Red Sox on numerous occasions throughout the 2023 season. The 25-year-old will be posted by the Buffaloes this offseason and could nab a deal north of $200 million. Boston needs to improve its rotation and Yamamoto very well could end up being a No. 1 starter. Yamamoto will have a large market and the Red Sox likely will be one of the major players.
