Red Sox Reportedly Still Interested In Landing All-Star Slugger After Signing Lucas Giolito
The Boston Red Sox have been busy and finally have something to show for it.
Boston reportedly landed one-time All-Star Lucas Giolito to a two-year deal on Friday night. Landing Giolito is a solid start for Boston but there still is plenty of work for the club to do if it wants to make its way back to the postseason in 2024.
The Red Sox still need to land a true ace and a solid right-handed bat to add to the middle of the lineup. Boston recently has been linked to All-Star slugger Teoscar Hernández as a possible option and it sounds like a signing still is a possibility after landing Giolito, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
"And according to major league sources, the Sox have continued to explore trades involving their group of young outfielders — they currently have left-handed hitters Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran, and Wilyer Abreu, as well as right-handed hitters Tyler O’Neill, Rob Refsnyder, and Ceddanne Rafaela," Speier said. "If the Sox deal from that group to add a pitcher, they could then return to the free-agent market to add a bat such as slugger Teoscar Hernández, in whom the team remains interested even after signing Giolito."
Hernández would be a very interesting pickup. Boston likely will be losing veteran Justin Turner so a signing of Hernández could make perfect sense. He would fill the role Turner held last season. He is just 31 years old and hit 26 home runs last season and drove in 93 runs. He's a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and certainly could help.
Don't be surprised to see a deal get done this offseason.
