The Boston Red Sox's search for a new leader of baseball operations appears to be quite the rollercoaster, and has been filled with rejection after years of mismanagement has finally caught up to the ownership group.

Boston appears to primarily be interested in prying an active executive already employed by another team. There has been league-wide speculation that a recently made available executive would be a strong fit for the Red Sox but that does seem to be the case.

"For what it's worth: Two sources in the last 24 hours threw cold water on the idea of (former Miami Marlins general manager) Kim Ng joining the Red Sox," MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported Friday. "Unclear what Ng’s plans are for 2024."

Ng recently departed from the Marlins after they reportedly planned to move her from head of baseball operations to second in command. The move by Miami came as a shock given the Marlins' recent success -- they made the playoffs this season after a 69-win season the year prior.

It's unclear whether the lack of interest is coming from Boston or Ng but it does not seem like she will be employed by the Red Sox anytime soon.

The Red Sox could use an executive with her impressive trade history but it's not the biggest loss in the world. Her free agency/extension history has been nothing to brag about and the aforementioned successful trades destroyed the Marlins farm system in just a few short years.

Boston will have to narrow their search in the coming days and fans will have a much better idea of who is in the running once the second round of interviews commence.

Update: We've since learned from MassLive's Sean McAdam that Ng declined to interview and the Red Sox had interest.

Neville spent all four years with Merrimack's radio station WMCK, where he grew as a radio/podcast host and producer.  His propensity for being in front of a microphone eventually expanded to film, where he produced multiple short films alongside his then-roommate and current co-worker Stephen Mottram. On a journey that began as a way to receive easy credits via film classes, he received a call from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" star Charlie Day. Day advised him to make a feature-length film, which he completed his senior year. While writing the film, Neville completed an internship for United Way as part of their NFL Partnership Program. Neville ran the blog for a team of interns and hosted an internet show called "United Way's NFL Partnership Series" where he interviewed NFL alumni. After college Neville wrote for SB Nation's "Over The Monster," a Red Sox sister site of the flagship brand. His work would eventually lead him to a job as a content producer with NESN, where he would cover all sports. After developing as a writer with the top regional network in the world, he was given the opportunity to join the Sports Illustrated Media Group in his current endeavor as the publisher of "Inside The Red Sox." The successful launch and quick rise of "Inside The Red Sox" led to Neville joining the Baseball Essential ownership group, a national baseball site under SIMG.
