Red Sox Rising Star Hints At Future Plans; Could Extension Be Coming This Offseason?
The Boston Red Sox certainly must be loving what they are seeing from young first baseman Triston Casas right now.
Casas made his big league debut in 2022, but the 2023 campaign has been his rookie season after appearing in just 27 games last year. The 23-year-old unsurprisingly got off to a rocky start this year and has since turned things around in a massive way. Casas doesn't look like a rookie and certainly hasn't played like one over the last few months.
The young slugger has been one of the best hitters in all of baseball since the All-Star break. In 45 games, Casas has slashed .340/.433/.680 to go along with 14 home runs and 32 RBIs. Overall, Casas is slashing .268/.368/.503 to go along with 23 home runs and 53 RBIs in 123 games.
Although Casas is young, he's clearly shown this season that he is the first baseman of the future for Boston. It's never too early to start discussing contract extensions and the young first baseman already has made it known what he wants, as transcribed by the Boston Globe's Julian McWilliams.
“I think in my short time that I’ve been in the org [organization], everybody’s treated me really well and with open arms,” Casas said as transcribed by McWilliams. “They have always provided me with all types of resources to be successful, which is all I can ask for.
“I’m not a super-high-maintenance person. I don’t need a lot. I just need the fundamentals and necessities and I’m happy. I’m really happy with the people in the organization. So, yeah, of course, I’d love to spend my whole career here in Boston.”
Casas was drafted in the first round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and quickly became one of Boston's top prospects. Hype surrounded the young slugger essentially from the moment he stepped on the field as a member of the Red Sox organization and has shown great promise. If the Red Sox could get a deal done this offseason to make sure he sticks around for the long haul, it certainly would make sense.
