Red Sox Slugger Exits Game Early With Potentially Season-Ending Ailment
The Boston Red Sox have not caught a break this season regarding injuries, and that trend will seemingly continue until the very last days of the season.
Red Sox second baseman Luis Urías exited Wednesday's contest against the Texas Rangers early. The veteran was pulled due to calf tightness according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.
The second basemen is hitting .221 with four extra-base hits including two home runs, 13 RBIs and a .699 OPS in 31 games for the Red Sox this season.
Urías was part of the sole trade that former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom made at the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.
The 26-year-old played the bulk of this season at second base, but his future with the club could have been decided in part over the course of the next nine games.
With postseason dreams being out of the equation, the Red Sox would have likely used the remainder of the season to evaluate Urías and get one last look at him ahead of the offseason. Second base is one of the few positions up for grabs next season. Urías could use some extra at-bats to increase his stock.
As of now, there haven't been any updates made by the team on his status and availability for the remainder of the season, but keeping him inactive for the remaining nine games wouldn't be surprising.
