Red Sox Slugger Expected To Be 'One-And-Done' With Boston Despite Stellar Season

It sounds like one Red Sox fan-favorite has played his final game in Boston

The Boston Red Sox may be without the services of one of the club's best right-handed hitters when the 2024 season kicks off.

Boston signed two-time All-Star Justin Turner last offseason to fill the club's open designated hitter spot and he did so impressively. Turner was one of the Red Sox's best players last season but is a free agent once again and will be 39 years old this upcoming season. He may be looking for a multi-year deal and it doesn't sound like the Red Sox will be giving him one.

Although Turner was impressive, it doesn't look like he will be re-signing with Boston, according to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam. 

"It now seems as though Justin Turner is destined to join the list of outstanding 'one-and-done' players in Red Sox history," McAdam said. "Some others who stayed for a single season: Nick Esasky, Adrian Beltre, and Orlando Cepeda."

This isn't the first time this idea has been floated. Turner was exceptional with the Red Sox, but it sounds like new chief baseball officer Craig Breslow will be looking for someone to fill the designated hitter role who can help maximize positional depth. Turner can help at first and third base, but the Red Sox may need more help in the outfield than at the corners. 

Turner was impressive with the Red Sox and quickly developed into a leader in the clubhouse as well as a fan-favorite across Red Sox Nation. Even if he doesn't end up back with Boston in 2024, hopefully, he can find great success wherever he lands.
