Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story appears to be on track to return in the second half as he's already making strides in his rehab process.

The 30-year-old had an internal bracing procedure in his right elbow over the offseason after he felt discomfort throwing while attempting to ramp up for spring training.

At the time, Story said his best-case scenario would be a second-half return and worst case he'd miss the full season. The slugger also noted that he felt much better about the former and has heard timelines for recovery anywhere from four to 10 months.

While the actual answer appears to lie somewhere in the middle, a second-half return is starting to sound very realistic.

Story has been playing catch up to 60 feet every other day for the last week and expects to start swinging next week according to The Boston Globe's Alex Speier on Monday.

“It’s going really good. It’s exciting,” Story told Speier. “Each day has gotten progressively better.”

Story hit .238 with 38 extra-base hits including 16 home runs, 66 RBIs with 13 steals in as many attempts and a .737 OPS in 94 games last season alongside Gold Glove-caliber defense at second base.

The Red Sox could really use him back in the lineup, especially given how badly Kiké Hernández and Christian Arroyo are struggling. The former is hitting .175 with a -0.2 WAR and the latter is hitting .160 with a -0.5 WAR.

Brighter days could be ahead, as outfielder Adam Duvall should be in-line to return before Story.

A middle-of-the-order featuring Rafael Devers, Trevor Story and Adam Duvall with Alex Verdugo dominating out of the lead-off spot could do damage. Justin Turner and Triston Casas would factor in as well.

Until then, we'll be able to hang onto encouraging updates on both sluggers on the mend.

On a journey that began as a way to receive easy credits via film classes, he received a call from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" star Charlie Day. Day advised him to make a feature-length film, which he completed his senior year. While writing the film, Neville completed an internship for United Way as part of their NFL Partnership Program. Neville ran the blog for a team of interns and hosted an internet show called "United Way's NFL Partnership Series" where he interviewed NFL alumni. After college Neville wrote for SB Nation's "Over The Monster," a Red Sox sister site of the flagship brand. His work would eventually lead him to a job as a content producer with NESN, where he would cover all sports. After developing as a writer with the top regional network in the world, he was given the opportunity to join the Sports Illustrated Media Group in his current endeavor as the publisher of "Inside The Red Sox."
