Red Sox Still Linked To Top Free Agent To Help Bolster Rotation
Opening Day will be here soon but one of the top free agents still is looking for his next opportunity.
Postseason star Jordan Montgomery has been in plenty of rumors throughout the offseason but somehow still is out there. It seems like he will sign a deal soon, though.
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell also was available but reportedly signed with the San Francisco Giants on Monday night shutting down rumors that he could sign with the New York Yankees.
Montgomery has been linked to the Boston Red Sox on numerous occasions and he would be the perfect pickup for the club as the rotation has some serious question marks.
It's unclear where Montgomery will sign, but the Red Sox continue to be mentioned as a possible landing spot, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Montgomery has been linked to his former (Texas Rangers) team, where he helped them with their first World Series in 2023 with a big postseason performance, plus the Red Sox and (Chicago Cubs), although it’s unclear if anything’s close with him," Heyman said.
The big lefty could be just what Boston needs. The Red Sox's starting rotation is the club's biggest weakness right now. Boston added Lucas Giolito in free agency but he will miss the 2024 season due to injury.
Montgomery may not be the flashiest pitcher out there, but he is dependable and steady. Boston still has plenty of money to spend and easily could get a deal done if it wanted to. Don't be surprised to see Montgomery sign over the next few days.
