Red Sox's Kenley Jansen Tells Media Who Boston Should Add At Trade Deadline
With less than a month until the Aug. 1 trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox are rapidly approaching crunch time to make an addition to a team fighting for a Wild Card spot.
Although the Red Sox have had holes in nearly every aspect of the game at different points this season, a lack of pitching depth seemingly continues to make its way into headlines. Boston's lone All-Star, Kenley Jansen, clearly wants the Red Sox to buy at the deadline and gave his two cents on the situation.
“For them to find me and Chris Martin and put those pieces after the last couple of years for this organization, it wasn’t great," Jansen said on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast.
"You see the 1-2 punch with us. At this point, it’s for them to figure out what’s best. To me, it’s just to put another punch back there with us. We’ve got a good team. We’re just a few pieces away from probably being a very, very good team.”
Boston currently has two openers and could use starting pitching to bolster the roster but every contender could use an additional high-leverage arm to make a playoff run. Jansen brings up a position where the talent pool is abundant.
There are a lot of intriguing names that could become available: San Diego Padres' Josh Hader, St. Louis Cardinals' Jordan Hicks or Chris Stratton Chicago White Sox's Joe Kelly, Kendall Graveman or Keynan Middleton, Colorado Rockies' Daniel Bard, Washington Nationals' Hunter Harvey or Kyle Finnegan among others.
