The Boston Red Sox's search for help in the starting rotation has led to plenty of headlines this offseason.

This isn't too surprising as holes in the starting rotation clearly are the Red Sox's biggest weakness. Boston's rotation struggled last season and arguably is the biggest reason why the club failed to make the postseason and finished in last place in the American League East.

Boston is attempting to give the rotation a boost by landing Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto but there are other holes on the roster. Second base arguably is the Red Sox's second biggest hole after the rotation.

There already have been multiple players linked to the Red Sox this offseason and the most intriguing may be San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim. It's unclear if the Red Sox could land him in a trade, but he reportedly may be moved, according to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey.

"Meanwhile, outside of the pitching market, The Athletic's Padres reporter Dennis Lin reported over the weekend that San Diego is looking to cut payroll and that likely means the team is fielding trade offers for several players including infielder Ha-Seong Kim," McCaffrey said. "As noted previously, Kim would be a perfect fit defensively and contract-wise for the Red Sox.

"But all of that seems to be on hold as the Red Sox -- and the rest of the league -- wait out Yamamoto."

Kim was stellar for the Padres in 2023. He launched 17 home runs, drove in 60 runs, stole 38 bases, logged 23 doubles, slashed .260/.351/.398, and earned his first Gold Glove Award. He is the exact type of player Boston needs. Plus, he could be a short-term option for the club giving Marcelo Mayer or Nick Yorke time to work their way up to the big leagues.

The Red Sox's focus is on the rotation right now, but Kim could be a very solid pickup afterward.
