The Boston Red Sox need to land another starting pitcher this offseason but it sounds like one of their top targets may end up elsewhere.

Former New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers lefty Jordan Montgomery is one of the most sought-after free-agent hurlers. Montgomery is a rising star and certainly could help the Boston rotation if the club was willing to pay his asking price.

Although this is the case, Montgomery is reportedly "widely expected" to re-sign with the Rangers this offseason, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"Jordan Montgomery is widely expected to re-sign with the Texas Rangers, but if there was any doubt, Arlington-based Hurtado Barbecue is making sure it will happen," Nightengale said. "They have offered Montgomery free barbecue for the rest of his life. Seriously.

“We’re going to give you free barbecue for life," owner Brandon Hurtado said in a video. “Not a joke, I’m dead serious. Jordan, if you come back and pitch for the Rangers this season, you’ll never pay for Hurtado Barbecue again.”

Montgomery has been mentioned as one of the most possible options for the Red Sox this offseason because he will be cheaper than someone like Blake Snell. Plus, he has plenty of American League East experience after beginning his career with the Yankees. He took a massive step forward last season and impressed down the stretch most with Texas and in the postseason on the way to the World Series.

Boston needs to make a big move, but it sounds like Montgomery may not end up being an option.
