The Boston Red Sox have a bright future, to say the least.

No matter what happens this year, the Red Sox already have exceeded expectations. Boston currently is 64-58 and just three games out of an American League Wild Card spot. The Red Sox were widely expected to finish at the bottom of the American League East standings and miss the postseason by a wide margin, but that doesn't appear to be the case at this time.

To make matters even better for the Red Sox, they now have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. Boston currently has the fifth-ranked farm system in all of baseball according to Baseball America. Shortstop Marcelo Mayer and outfielder Roman Anthony are two of the biggest reasons why, but the Red Sox have plenty of depth now.

One underrated prospect who could be an intriguing option for the Red Sox down the line is young outfielder Allan Castro. Castro currently is Boston's 30th-ranked prospect but has been tearing it up in the minors so far this season. The 20-year-old is slashing .290/.363/.460 over 113 plate appearances with the High-A Greenville Drive while playing all three outfield positions. The young outfielder began his professional career with the Red Sox's Dominican Summer League club in 2021 as an 18-year-old.

Since then, Castro has worked his way up to Greenville and a promotion to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs could be on the way in the not-so-distant future. Castro is just 20 years old so Red Sox fans likely won't see him manning the outfield at Fenway Park for a few years at least, but they should be keeping a close eye on him. The 20-year-old is projected to make the jump to the big leagues in 2026 if he continues to progress at his current pace and could be an intriguing fit. Castro is a switch hitter and can play all three outfield positions so he at least would provide some depth.

It's far too early to know if he will make it to the Red Sox, but the fact that Boston now has so many intriguing prospects at least is a testament to how far the farm system has grown in the last few years.
