The Boston Red Sox may not have to look very far to improve its bullpen.

Boston's bullpen has taken a step forward this season after being one of the worst in all of baseball last year but there still is plenty of room for growth. The Red Sox finished the 2022 season with the fifth-worst bullpen ERA with a disappointing 4.59. Boston's bullpen currently is 13th in the league this season in ERA at 3.87.

Although the Red Sox's bullpen has looked better this season, the club has dealt with a plethora of injuries. Joely Rodriguez, Richard Bleier, and John Schreiber currently are on the 15-day injured list. Starter Chris Sale also is on the injured list which has forced the club to move reliever Kutter Crawford from the bullpen starting rotation.

The Boston bullpen has been a revolving door as of late with players like Chris Murphy, Justin Garza, and Brennan Bernardino all seeing time with the big league club. If the Red Sox want to add to the bullpen another player in the minors who could be of some help is right-handed pitcher Andrew Politi.

The 27-year-old was re-acquired by Boston after being selected in the Rule-5 Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, but failing to make the club's roster ahead of the 2023 campaign. Politi has impressed with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox so far this season compiling a 5-1 record and pitching to a 3.42 ERA in 23 appearances so far this season. The righty has struck out 27 batters so far this season while walking 12 in 26 1/3 innings pitched.

Politi seemingly is on the doorstep of making his big league debut and if he continues to pitch at his current rate, it will be sooner rather than later. The 27-year-old currently isn't on Boston's 40-man roster so a corresponding move would need to be made to add Politi, but it may make sense. Boston's bullpen has been stretched incredibly thin so far this season, adding Politi into the mix could only help.
