The Boston Red Sox need to make a major splash this offseason if they want to make it back to the postseason in 2024.

Boston's biggest roster question mark certainly is the starting rotation but there are other parts of the roster the club needs to address. One spot the club will need to decide on is the designated hitter. Boston had Justin Turner fill the role in 2023 and he was impressive but it appears as though he will be playing elsewhere next season. With Turner likely gone, the Red Sox need another right-handed bat in the middle of the lineup and someone to fill the spot.

The Red Sox already have made it known that they would prefer whoever is in the designated hitter role to also give the club defensive flexibility. One player who could make sense in a trade is Chicago White Sox slugger Eloy Jiménez. Chicago appears poised to blow the roster up this offseason and reportedly could trade him, according to 670 The Score's Bruce LeVine.

"Jiménez could be the centerpiece of a high-profile trade when the Winter Meetings are held in Nashville in early December," LeVine said

"I made it very clear that the White Sox are willing to listen to ideas on any of our players,” White Sox general manager Chris Getz said as transcribed by LeVine. “When it comes to Eloy, we just had a visit with him down in the Dominican Republic. He is off and running with his offseason strength program. He looks very good. He looks motivated and determined. He needs to maintain that, but his lack of consistency was based mostly on missed time. Teams are interested in him. (A deal) just has to make sense for both sides.”

Jiménez is just 26 years old and has seen time at designated hitter, left field, and right field throughout his career so far. He has dealt with some injuries, but still hit 18 home runs and drove in 64 runs in 2023 in 120 games played. If he's healthy, he's the type of player that could be a solid addition to the Boston lineup. The Red Sox have the prospect capital to get a deal done and the money to keep him around for the future.

If he does get traded, Boston at least should consider a move.
