Red Sox Fan Favorite Could Be Traded This Season Despite Great Start
The Boston Red Sox will have some tough choices to make this season.
Boston has been great to kick off the 2024 season. The Red Sox currently are 7-3 after the club's first road trip of the season and have surprised some people. Boston has been successful so far this season because of the surprising performance of the club's starting rotation.
The Red Sox entered the season with plenty of question marks in the rotation and the team has stepped up and actually has had the best rotation in baseball to kick off the campaign. One of the biggest reasons for the Red Sox's success has been a solid start to the season from fiery veteran Nick Pivetta.
Pivetta has made two starts so far for Boston and has allowed just one earned run across 11 innings pitched while racking up 13 strikeouts. The 31-year-old has been great for Boston, but it's uncertain if he will remain with the club throughout the entire season as there's a possibility he gets traded, according to the Boston Herald's Mac Cerullo.
"Now here’s the multi-million dollar question facing the Red Sox in the near future," Cerullo said. "Has Pivetta really leveled up and become a front-of-the-rotation guy? And whether he has or not, does he have a future with the organization?
"If the Red Sox fall out of the playoff hunt, it’s a lot easier to imagine Pivetta being traded. He could presumably provide a boost to a playoff contender as a rental while allowing the Red Sox to get more value in return than just a compensatory draft pick."
While this isn't a guarantee, it is a possibility. Pivetta will be a free agent at the end of the season and if the Red Sox aren't in contention around the trade deadline, it could make sense to see him get moved. Hopefully, Boston can keep up its level of play at the moment and continue to shine.
