Red Sox Receive Promising Update On Superstar After Injury Scare
The Boston Red Sox already have been bitten by the injury bug.
The 2024 season officially is here and although the Red Sox have played just two regular season games already are dealing with some injuries. Boston will be without the services of top free agent addition Lucas Giolito for the entire season and the club had a small scare Friday night.
Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers was in the starting lineup when it was first announced but was scratched from the lineup ahead of the first pitch due to shoulder soreness. While it was nerve-wracking to see Boston's top slugger taken out of the lineup due to an injury, the club did get a positive update on him, according to MassLive.com's Christopher Smith.
"Alex Cora said Rafael Devers felt a little stiff in the shoulder when he came in today, not something that happened yesterday," Smith said. "They just decided not to push it with it being the second game of the season. Rafael Devers said he’s been feeling it some since Fort Myers. But he feels he might be able to play tomorrow"
It's unfortunate that Devers has been dealing with a sore shoulder throughout Spring Training, but the fact that he could return to the lineup Saturday should give Boston fans some comfort.
Devers had a strong start to the 2024 season with two hits including a home run, double, and two RBIs in the team's Opening Day win against the Seattle Mariners. Hopefully, he can return to the field on Saturday and his shoulder won't become more of an issue.
