Red Sox Rising Star Leaves Game Early With Injury Vs. Guardians
The Boston Red Sox seemingly can't catch a break when it comes to injuries, as a handful of players are already either out for the season or on the injured list after just 17 games.
Of course, any player getting injured would be horrible news for Boston and an injury to an already slim pitching staff would be devastating news. Unfortunately, Garrett Whitlock was the latest to go down, as he was pulled from Tuesday night's game against the Cleveland Guardians after only 54 pitches across four innings of work.
MLB.com's Ian Browne reported on Tuesday night that Whitlock left the game due to left oblique tightness.
Whitlock has been stellar for the Red Sox thus far, posting a 1.96 ERA with a 17-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .212 batting average against and a 1.15 WHIP in 18 1/3 innings pitched across four games this year.
The 27-year-old has been a massive reason for Red Sox rotation's success so far this season, contributing to a league-leading 1.92 ERA for starting pitchers ahead of Tuesday nights game.
Right now it's unclear of the severity of Whitlock's injury, hopefully removing him early in Tuesday nights game was just been precautionary.
