Red Sox Should Consider Reunion With All-Star To Help Fix Defensive Issues
The Boston Red Sox have some serious work to do.
Boston got off to a hot start to begin the 2024 season but has started to cool off lately. The Red Sox currently are 7-6 on the young season but have lost three straight games after being swept by the Baltimore Orioles at home.
The Red Sox are dealing with some serious injuries with the biggest being the loss of Trevor Story for the rest of the season. He not only is one of the team's top right-handed batters, but he is a defensive wiz and helped make everyone better in the infield.
Since losing Story, the Red Sox's defense has looked rough. Boston currently has the second-most errors in Major League Baseball with 13 and is just two behind the Oakland Athletics. Something needs to be done to right the ship.
It could make a lot of sense to consider an external option at this point. One player who could make a lot of sense is former Red Sox infielder José Iglesias. He currently is a member of the New York Mets' organization but is in the minor leagues with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.
Boston at least should give New York a call to see if it would be possible to make a deal. A trade likely wouldn't cost the Red Sox much -- especially as the Mets seem to be set in the middle infield.
Iglesias already has had two different stints with the Red Sox and could be the perfect player to help stabilize the Boston defense before things get too out of whack.
