Red Sox Should Sign Ex-Orioles Utility Man After Surprisingly Being DFA'd

Could the Red Sox add a little more veteran depth after the devastating Story injury news?

The Boston Red Sox certainly could use some more depth right now.

Boston has been dealt a tough hand to kick off the season. The Red Sox currently are 7-4 on the young season but are dealing with some important injuries. Boston's starting rotation currently is thin with Lucas Giolito out for the season and Nick Pivetta currently on the Injured List.

The Red Sox also got devastating news as star shortstop Trevor Story also will miss the rest of the season as he deals with a shoulder injury. Story suffered a shoulder injury while diving for a ground ball against the Los Angeles Angels.

Boston now needs to figure out its plan for the middle infield. Enmanuel Valdez has been manning second base and the club currently has Pablo Reyes and David Hamilton spending time at shortstop. Top addition Vaughn Grissom should be back soon and can help out at either middle infield position as well.

With Story out, the Red Sox could use another addition to help add depth. The Baltimore Orioles are calling up top prospect Jackson Holliday and in response designated veteran utility man Tony Kemp for assignment.

If the Red Sox want to add more depth, landing Kemp could make a lot of sense. The 32-year-old is a nine-year big league veteran and has seen time all around the infield throughout his professional career. He's gotten off to a slow start so far this season, but could be cheap, veteran depth that the Red Sox badly need now.

Why not take a chance on him?
