The Boston Red Sox had a scary moment on the field Monday.

Boston welcomed the Cleveland Guardians to Fenway Park for an early afternoon Boston Marathon day showdown. The Guardians ended up winning the contest and the Red Sox had more bad luck during the game.

The Red Sox have been dealing with a handful of important injuries already throughout the season and the club had another scare as sluggers Tyler O'Neill and Rafael Devers collided late in the contest on a pop-up to left field.

Devers stayed in the game, but O'Neill had to leave and got stitches. Although it was a scary incident, it sounds like he will be able to avoid the Injured List, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.

"(Red Sox manager Alex Cora) doesn't think O'Neill will need to be on the IL," Cotillo said. "He's in concussion protocol. Devers is fine. Obviously, a scary scene. O'Neill was in the clubhouse (with) stitches but not cleared to talk. Devers was cleared, agreed to talk to media then slipped out the back door and left."

O'Neill has been the Red Sox's best hitter so far this season and currently is leading the league with an eye-popping seven home runs. If the Red Sox were to lose him for any period, they would be in a tough situation.

Boston already has been bitten by the injury bug plenty of times this season and at one point it seemed like the club's two biggest sluggers could miss time. It seems like the club has avoided the worst-case scenario.
