Red Sox Star Suffered 'Significant' Injury Putting Return In 2024 In Question
The Boston Red Sox may be without the services of one of their top players for the rest of the season.
Boston entered the 2024 season with low expectations but has looked very solid so far. The Red Sox currently are 6-3 and are in second place in the American League East. It's still early, but the Red Sox have surprised some people.
One reason why the Red Sox have found success certainly has been the return of shortstop Trevor Story. His defense has been exceptional and his bat has started to pick up.
Story has been great to begin the season, but now there's a real chance that he won't appear in another game this season due to a "significant" shoulder injury he suffered Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham.
"Trevor Story said he had a 'significant' injury but there was hope he would be able to play again this season," Abraham said. "He was very emotional. Terrible news for a player who had done all he could to come back strong this season."
Story has given the Red Sox a massive lift defensively so far this season and has been a breath of fresh air. Boston missed Story for much of the 2024 season due to an injury and he worked his way back to be fully healthy to start this season.
One of the biggest issues with Boston last season was disappointing defense and the return of Story helped to fix those problems. The Red Sox will know more about Story's injury Monday, but hopefully, he is able to return in the not-so-distant future.
