CINCINNATI — What a start for the Cincinnati Reds.

Nick Martini hit two home runs in his first two at-bats and the Reds have a 7-0 lead over the Washington Nationals in the fourth inning.

The Reds had a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Martini got going, clubbing a two-run homer to give Cincinnati a 3-0 lead. The Reds built on their lead in the third, as Martini hit a three-run homer this time, to give the Reds a 7-0 lead.

Martini has appeared in 141 career games prior to today, including 29 contests for the Reds last season. He posted a .264 batting average last season with six home runs and 16 RBI. He earned the Opening Day start with a successful spring and is taking advantage of the opportunity on Thursday at Great American Ballpark.
