The Cincinnati Reds made several roster moves on Monday, including calling up Michael Toglia from Triple-A Louisville and activating Nick Lodolo from the 15-day injured list. To make room, the Reds transferred Hunter Greene to the 60-day injured list and optioned right-hander Zach McCambley back to Triple-A Louisville.

They sent infielder/outfielder Ivan Johnson to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

The Rockies selected Toglia 23rd overall in the first round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft. In 2025, Toglia struggled, slashing just .190/.258/.353 with 27 extra-base hits.

The Rockies decided to non-tender hm in November.

In January, the Reds inked him to a minor league deal and he's been showcasing his power with Triple-A Louisville.

Dominating the Minors

In 97 games with Triple-A Louisville this season, he's slashing .273/.373 /.547 with 49 extra-base hits, including 22 home runs.

Toglia is chasing less than 25% of the time in Louisville, which would be one of the lowest chase rates of his career. That is especially impressive considering he's only seeing 44% of pitches go for strikes. Pitchers are not coming in the zone against him and he's still not chasing.

The Reds had been playing without a backup first baseman, but now Toglia will give them some options to move Sal Stewart around to add some lineup flexibility. With Nathaniel Lowe traded at the deadline, Cincinnati's offense has gone quiet. They scored just six runs against the Nationals when they were swept in DC.

Toglia is a switch-hitter and has been good from both sides of the plate with the Bats. Against righties, he's slashing .288/.366/.560 with 16 home runs. Against lefties, he is slashing .230/.391 /.506 with six home runs.

In Spring Training, Toglia talked to Charlie Goldsmith and said he's just going to take it one day at a time.

“I get a fresh slate and get to write my own history here,” Toglia told Goldsmith. “You learn from last year and move on. It’s not the year I thought I was going to have. I adjusted the type of goals I set for this year. Last year, my goals could have been more specific and not as numerical based. This year, I want to enjoy the game. Dominate the day, that phrase will give me freedom that no matter how you’re feeling, you can dominate the day.”

The Reds desperately need more pop in their lineup, and Toglia has a chance to provide exactly that. He should give them another power option off the bench while also getting opportunities to work his way into the starting lineup.
