Gerrit Cole is the top free agent pitcher on the market and will have plenty of suitors this offseason, including the New York Yankees, who are using newly retired pitcher CC Sabathia to recruit Cole to play in the pinstripes. Cole grew up in Southern California and pitched at UCLA, which made the Angels early favorites to sign him. With two of MLB’s largest markets in play for Cole, SI’s Ryan Asselta says he’s likely to surpass David Price’s 7-year, $217 million deal and become the sport’s highest paid pitcher.
