On May 14th, 1996, Dwight Gooden threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners. It was an emotional night for Gooden for several reasons, as his father was less than 24 hours away from undergoing heart surgery. Additionally, Gooden's big-league career was on the brink, as he'd been demoted to the minors earlier in the season, after signing with New York following a drug-related suspension that caused him to miss the entire 1995 season.
